Atharv’s Chronicle 07-04-24 : Using Rewards System to build Resilience

Using Reward system to build Resilience.

Hey Friends, this week I want to talk about how we can use Reward system to build Resilience.

In the journey towards personal growth and development, Rewards system is such a powerful tool, I’m using this effectively to not just only accomplish more tasks but also to develop a strong character, will power and resilience along the way.

Have you ever felt the need to have that extrinsic motivation to get started with stuff?

Something like,
– You want to buy the new shoes first to get started with your fitness journey!
– You want to buy that Macbook first to get started with your dream project!
– You want to complete watching that series first before starting studying for your exam!
– You want to enjoy that vacation first before planning to upgrade your business!

Instead you do it reverse
– I will get myself a pair of new shoes if I hit a goal of 15 gym sessions in a month (We can break it to as smaller one as possible, Ex: I will get myself a new t-shirt if I hit gym 4 times this week)
– I will get myself a brand new macbook after completing the draft of the project.
– I will reward myself with one more episode of that series if I study for 5 hours.
– I will book a 3 days holiday to Goa if my business generates 5 lakhs revenue in the next quarter.

it can be as simple as
I will treat myself with an ice cream if I complete 7.5K steps every day this week.
I will get a new phone case if I limit my phone usage to less than 4 hours per day for this entire week.

This extrinsic motivation not only helps in kickstarting the journey but also adds an element of enjoyment to the process.

It will be great if we integrate our buying patterns as rewards with our goals, Whatever we desire to buy, we can associate it with something we want to achieve.

When we stick to these commitments and live up to them, we are not just enjoying the rewards followed by a goal achieved. we are also building a strong character and we develop a sense of confidence that we just don’t fall for anything like that and also we are avoiding impulsive shopping.

I believe anything looses its value when it is too easy to avail. For Example: We can easily avail an EMI and get our favourite iphone
but say we associate our desire of buying an iphone to something we wanted to achieve badly and then reward yourself with that iphone when things are achieved doesn’t just get us an awesome feeling, the confidence derived from this win is unmatchable.

Also we are indirectly acing “delayed gratification”
and we are mastering patience
and we know the value of each stuff
We eventually develop this feeling, we are built strong, whatever it is, we work for it and get it!!
we get the value of it and also we are growing in parallel.

It doesn’t mean everything we use needs to be obtained this way
we don’t need to apply this principle for our needs (they go a normal way, We need it → we buy it, simple)
But if we apply it for our desires, it would be very effective.
Basically we are increasing our deservingness to get near to our desires.

And this reward system is subjective. You can come up with your own reward system.

Hope you enjoyed this one!
See you next week!

My Week in Pictures! 📸

In this section, I share my week in pictures, for those who prefer pictures over text.

I view this part as a combination of journaling and a visual diary of my personal experiences. My days often follow a repetitive pattern, yet each experience brings a unique perspective.
