Welcome to this edition of my newsletter! Today, we’re diving into the different roles we play in life and how adopting the right mindset for each can make our journey smoother and more enjoyable.
In life, we get to play many roles, and we can’t have the same approach, ideology, mentality, or feeling while playing all of them.
For example, when you are driving a car, you are playing the role of a driver irrespective of your position, identity, power, etc. Just because you hold a doctorate degree or you are a celebrity, you can’t follow your own rules. When you are in the driver’s seat, you should act according to the mechanics of the vehicle and abide by the road and traffic rules. When you know you are playing the role of a driver, you need to follow the corresponding rules and responsibilities.
Say you are active in the stock market:
- When you are taking an intraday position, you are a trader.
- When you are taking a delivery trade, you are an investor.
Each of these roles demands different analysis and a unique mindset to excel. Imagine reversing the roles and applying reverse strategies – what would happen?
Similarly,
- When you are cooking, you are a chef.
- When you are talking to your wife, You are a husband.
- When you are talking to your mom, You are her son/daughter.
- When you are watching a movie, You are a spectator.
- When you are playing a game, You are a sportsman.
- When you are working for someone, You are an employee.
- When you are volunteering, you are a volunteer.
- When you are giving advice, you are a mentor.
- When you are listening to someone, you are a listener.
In whatever we do, if we approach life events with preconceived thoughts, feelings, or notions, we might miss out on the beauty of the present. We often claim to have attained a particular identity and seek corresponding respect and acknowledgment from people. However, different roles in life require different aspects of our identity.
When we try to mismatch the roles or use one identity in place of another, we invite problems, and life gets complicated. If we can be in the moment and keep our other identities aside, life can be so much easier. When we learn to approach life events with a fresh perspective, we can have so much fun!
And if you think role-playing is a subject only kids should master, think again. We all need it. We all should know which life event is demanding which version of us and act accordingly.
We should never stop learning, as life never stops teaching.
I hope you gained some insights from reading this! Embrace your different roles with the right mindset, and watch your life transform. See you next week!
