“HOW WRITING BECAME MY BEST FRIEND”
In the digital AI world, where you can create a book in a click of a button, there is still a space for your own story – your experience – the real human touch has not lost its value yet!
Today, I want to share something deeply personal with you – my journey with writing and how this simple habit transformed my life in ways I never imagined.
How It All Started
I didn’t start writing because I wanted to become a writer. I started writing just to put out my thoughts after a rough day at PU college.
I just wanted to put out my frustration, whenever I felt like talking to a friend and when there was nobody to share my feelings with – I sat down and wrote. Just scribbled things on the back of a notebook.
I wrote a letter to myself to handle myself better when the so-called love was falling apart (it was an infatuation, at the age of 16). Whenever I felt bad about things that happened at our home, I wrote things. Something good happened – just logged it.
So I started with my journaling hobby like this and I used to do it occasionally.
Making It a Daily Practice
Then eventually, I started writing every day as part of practicing my left-hand writing.
I had a book called the “Constructive Book” which I used to fill before dinner every day. There were 4 parts to it:
First part was learning one single English word for the day and then making 4-5 sentences about it.
Second section was to learn a Hindi sentence and then write something about it.
Third section was about how the day went.
Fourth section was about learning one single quote per day.
And I used to cover sections 3 and 4 with my left hand – yes I am an ambidextrous person – I can write with my left hand as well as my right hand – yes, but not at a time – will be there one day!
So – this is how I started with this writing habit and made it stick with me as my favorite hobby – way back when I was in engineering college.
And I have done this – not just for days, months – but for years!
Yes, and it is one of my strengths – when I start something – I don’t usually give up. And that too if it is something good – nothing can’t stop me. I am a compulsive good finder and a real-time implementor – yes, and I am very proud of this fact!
The Real Journey – From Private Pages to Public Words
If you think I got started with writing only when I started this newsletter – nope! That’s not where it began.
The newsletter came much later. I got started sharing publicly only when I wanted to share my thoughts with the world. But before that? I wanted to fall in love with writing first. And I did – deeply, madly, completely.
I spent years writing just for myself. No audience. No likes. No comments. Just me, my thoughts, and the paper. Those years were my foundation. They taught me to write without the pressure of perfection.
Now, after years of practice, if I get an idea to present – I can present it as a story and narrate it in a way which is easy to understand by the world. But this didn’t happen overnight. It happened because I fell in love with the process first, not the outcome.
How This Writing Hobby Has Transformed My Life
1. It’s liberating and gives me clarity
Just put down your thoughts with your hand on a sheet of paper. There’s something magical about seeing your thoughts outside your head. It’s like releasing a pressure valve you didn’t know existed. When I have confusions in life – I just note down my thoughts in a diary. Halfway through writing – I would get some clarity. Whenever I want to decide something important, I write. And it has always helped me choose the best!
2. I can influence and communicate better
People influence the world through different means – money, power, race, sex etc. I can do it using my writing – I can influence people and create a positive impact without needing any of those things. This skill has also helped me at work – I am able to communicate clearly and present my ideas well.
3. Fuels my content creation effortlessly
I can write scripts effortlessly – I can convert all my blog posts to a YouTube video and I don’t have to go in search of new content ideas. My writing habit has become a content creation machine.
4. Mental decluttering and self-reflection
When I write down all my thoughts covering all the negative emotions (Anger, Frustration, Confusion, Helplessness, Fear, Lust, Jealousy etc) I can see with my own eyes how pathetic my real thoughts are, how much negativity I am holding – which helps me remove many things consciously. It’s like taking out the mental trash. It also helps me to reflect on my life, where do I stand, how I think etc. What gets written – that gets you clarity!
5. Building future income streams
Eventually I will be able to monetize this skill as well – through a paid newsletter, through an e-book, or through an actual book. But even if I don’t, the skill of clear communication is valuable in any career. Words you write today can earn for you years later.
6. Preserving memories and becoming a better thinker
Years from now, I’ll have documented records of my thoughts, my journey, my struggles, and my victories. My future kids or grandkids can read and understand who I really was. Also, when I read something valuable or learn something new, writing about it helps me internalize it better. Writing forces me to think deeply, not just skim the surface.
And many more benefits that I keep discovering as I continue this journey.
Your Turn – Start Your Writing Journey Today
I urge you to start with this hobby – give it a try at least.
You don’t need to be a great writer. You don’t need fancy notebooks or perfect grammar. You just need to start.
You can get started just by documenting your life. Just like how the day went, what are you working on currently, what made you smile today.
Start small. Write three sentences today. Write one paragraph tomorrow. Don’t aim for perfection – aim for consistency.
In this digital age where everything is automated and AI-generated, your story matters. Your experience matters. The real human touch has not lost its value yet!
So give it a try and tell your story to the world! And for sure, when you are genuine – you will be rewarded!
Conclusion
Writing found me when I needed it most. What started as random scribbles became a daily practice, then a skill, and finally a way of life.
If there’s one thing I want you to take away – it’s that writing is not just for writers. It’s for anyone who wants to understand themselves better, communicate better, and live better.
See you in the next one!

“Start now. Optimize later. – An imperfect start can always be improved, but obsessing over a perfect plan will never take you anywhere on its own.”

Nice to see such positive thoughts! I began my day reflecting on the path our guru laid out for us, and it’s great to see you’ve been following it—well done, bro. I realize now that I’ve drifted away from my habits, probably due to daily stress. I had stopped everything, including the new routines I was building. But today, I’m making a promise to restart and stay consistent.
