Welcome back to another edition of Atharv’s Chronicle!

Life has been busy lately. I’m building a lot, working out, commuting to the office, doing my regular work, running a side project, and showing up for family events. Some days it gets overwhelming, and things I planned quietly slip away.
One of those things has been this newsletter.
I’m supposed to publish on the 5th and 20th of every month, and I keep missing those dates. Even this edition is a couple of days late. So before I make any promises, let me be honest about why it happens.
It’s not a time problem
It’s not that I don’t have time. When I love something, I get completely absorbed in it and spend hours perfecting it. And in between, I sometimes drift off plan and end up scrolling apps I don’t need. The time exists. It just leaks.
What I’ve been building (and not sharing)
Here’s the work that got lost in that leak, the things I’ve built but never talked about here:
-
Keytones – a local app for my MacBook that plays a sound for every keypress
-
Habit Tracker – an app to track hobbies, live at habittracker.atharvprasanna.com. Please check it out!
-
Inspire Taxation – a website for my friend’s auditing firm: inspiretaxation.com
-
Sumukha Creative Labs – where I’m trying my hand at digital marketing: sumukhacreativelabs.com
-
Working with a few people through the permissionless apprenticeship model
and many more In Progress projects – Its my hobby to talk only after I completely build something – but I should change my perspective on it – I should consider sharing things with the world as and when I have good progress.
Back to the context, Why some things never slip
Meanwhile, other parts of my life run almost on autopilot:
-
4-5 gym sessions a week (home workouts when I miss one)
-
Journaling every day
-
Watching the sunset almost every day
-
Reading a few pages daily, or learning through Deepstash app and newsletters
-
Photographing beautiful things
-
Daily meditation and singing a prayer
-
Spending few hours everyday for up-skilling
I genuinely love these things. But here’s what I noticed: none of them depend on motivation. Each one has a system. The gym has fixed days and a home-workout backup. Journaling and prayer are tied to fixed moments in my day.
That’s the real difference. What has a system, survives. What depends on mood, slips. The newsletter never had a system. It had good intentions.
Building the system
This is where an idea I picked up from Alex Hormozi (originally from Paul Graham) comes in: splitting work into Maker sessions and Manager sessions. Maker work needs deep, uninterrupted time. Manager work is about execution, scheduling and shipping.
Writing is Maker work. And I already have a Maker session that never fails me: my daily journaling. So instead of creating a new habit, I’m attaching the newsletter to one I already keep.
So here’s the system:
-
Write (Maker session): every morning or night, as part of my journaling, I add a few lines to the next edition. Small, daily, no pressure.
-
Publish (Manager session): on the 5th and the 20th, I pull those notes together, polish, and hit send.
The writing happens quietly every day. Publishing becomes a simple task, not a mountain.
No reasons, no excuses. I decided to do this, so I’ll do it, come what may.
Why this promise matters
Every promise I keep trains my subconscious to believe what I say. When I say I’ll do something and then actually do it, my belief in my own ability grows. Small honoured commitments compound into self-trust, and self-trust is what makes the bigger things possible.
To wrap up
We are all gifted with the potential to live a legendary life. But freedom of time and choice without discipline doesn’t lead anywhere. Life brings plenty of distractions, and the mind invents many more on its own. Discipline isn’t about trying harder. It’s about building systems that make the right thing the default.
So here’s my ask for you: pick one thing you keep promising yourself and keep missing. Don’t push harder on it. Give it a system, a fixed time, and a backup plan.
And hold me to mine. If this newsletter doesn’t land on the 5th or the 20th, call me out.
Begin where you can. Begin somewhere.
See you on the 20th.

I am consistent on Deepstash app, on a 486 days streak – quick bytes of learning everyday!

Question to Ask Yourself? 📝
What is one promise I keep making to myself, and what system would make keeping it the default?
